About the Speaker and Panelists:

Brent Lanford, Middle Georgia Regional Commission CTO to Speak at April AITS/ISC2 Meeting

Brent Lanford, Chief Technology Officer for the Middle Georgia Regional Commission, is scheduled to be the Tuesday, April 16 5:30 p.m. speaker for AITS/ISC2’s monthly speaker series. Mr. Lanford will share the Middle Georgia Regional Commission’s unique role in support Middle Georgia government entities. https://www.middlegeorgiarc.org/

Brent Lanford is a member of the senior management team at the Middle Georgia Regional Commission (MGRC), the state-designated regional planning agency serving the eleven-county and twenty city region of central Georgia. He joined the MGRC in 1994 and has progressed through a series of positions, including Government Services Specialist, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Manager, Information Technology (IT) Director, Deputy Director, and his current role as the MGRC’s first Chief Information Officer (CIO). Mr. Lanford’s 29 year career with MGRC has focused on project development and management, with emphasis on the application of digital and geospatial data technologies in support of regional planning. He is a member of the MGRC geospatial team that was award an ESRI Significant Achievement in GIS (SAG) in 2014 and was recognized in 2016 as a Catalyst in Geospatial Excellence by the National States Geographic Information Council (MSGIC) for his role in helping to create the Geospatial Information Office (GIO) for the State of Georgia. In 2023, Mr. Lanford was appointed to the Georgia Geospatial Advisory Council (GGAC) and currently serves on its board of directors.

Mr. Lanford holds a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Georgia. Brent and his wife, Vicki, are lifelong residents of Macon and have two children, Nicholas and Carter, ages 18 and 17. Mr. Lanford enjoys playing tennis, cooking, traveling, and spending time with his family.

Industry Panel, Artificial Intelligence Challenges in Everyday Life

Lindsey Longergan, JD, CIPP/US, CHC – Atrium Health Navicent: As the Vice President and Deputy General Counsel at Atrium Health Navicent, I provide strategic legal advice and services to executive leaders across the enterprise on various operational, regulatory, transactional, and litigation matters. I am responsible for leading litigation and investigations across the system, strategizing the development of contracts that support system goals, developing strategic relations with business leaders to ensure I am providing meaningful legal support in alignment with company objectives and advocating for providing health care to people in the communities we serve. I also hold the Certified Information Privacy Professional credential from the International Association of Privacy Professionals and lead legal investigations throughout the organization including in the privacy and cybersecurity space.

Dr. Christa Self – USAF AFMC 581 SWES/MXDPCA: Christa Self is currently a Lead Information Technology Specialist at Robins Air Force Base supporting web applications. Christa’s current focus areas are integrating DevSecOps and Agile Software Development in the defense space. Christa obtained her Doctorate of Science from Middle Georgia State University as part of MGA’s first doctoral cohort. In her spare time, Christa enjoys music, reading, and spending time with family.

Deryk Stoops – Central Georgia Technical College: As an Industrial Systems Technology Instructor at Central Georgia Technical College, Deryk Stoops is responsible for the AI Enhanced Robotics Manufacturing Studio and program of study that launched in October 2023. Located at the Georgia VECTR Center (Veterans Education Career Transition Resource) the studio, showcases the advanced technologies that are revolutionizing manufacturing and serves as the training laboratory for students in the AI Enhanced Robotic Manufacturing Specialist program. Funded by the Georgia-AIM grant, the Studio is strategically located at the VECTR center to help close the emerging technology skill gaps occurring in manufacturing by equipping Veterans and Active Duty services members with valuable skills in Robotics, PLCs, Smart Sensor Networks, Machine Vision Systems, Autonomous Vehicles, and Artificial Intelligence. As a DOD SkillBridge approved program, active duty service members who are within 120 days of retiring have the opportunity to receive this training and be prepared for their new careers in AI Manufacturing. While the VECTR center gives priority admission to service members and their families, this program along with as the other career education programs offered at the VECTR is open to anyone as long as there are openings.

Title:  “Risk mitigation strategies for critical infrastructure resilience”

About the speaker:  

Dr. Williams is an accomplished professional with an unwavering passion for cybersecurity, digital forensics, and cutting-edge industry research. Her journey has been one of continuous learning and exploration.

With over 14 years in the computing industry, Dr. Williams has worn various hats—from her start as an entry-level technician to her current role as a Technical Account Manager at Tanium. At Tanium, she empowers the Public Sector (federal, state, and local governments) with robust operations, risk management, and security solutions.

As an adjunct professor at MGA since 2019, Dr. Williams has had the privilege of shaping the next generation of cybersecurity professionals. Her research focuses on promoting gender and racial diversity inclusion within the computing industry and delving into the fascinating world of mobile device forensics.

When Dr. Williams is not immersed in industry challenges or teaching, you’ll find her cherishing moments with her family, exploring new destinations, and soaking in the magic of live music.

Dr. Williams’ dedication to her field and her multifaceted interests make her a true trailblazer.
